550. English Spring Scale. 5-1/2" deep x 4-1/2" wide. Small, oblong brass face, calibrated in pence (3,6,9,1/) and lbs (1-7). ring at top for hanging; hook at bottom for holding parcels. Looped spring attached behind face and affixed to vertical pointer on face. Weight of parcel pulls pointer down to proper calibration. Markings: "Parcel Post" and "W" in double circle (maker's mark?). c.1884. (See EQM, p. 895, 897.)
